Artist Details

Karen Honaker, born in Columbus, Nebraska has been an artist ever since she could hold a paint brush. At the age of 6, she began formal oil painting instruction and by the time she was 21, Karen earned a fine art bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska. Being married to a Navy pilot, the subsequent twenty five years of travel and living abroad influenced Karen’s painting style and choice of medium. Ever since moving to California in 1983, Karen turned away from oils and focused exclusively on transparent watercolors. During the last few years, Karen has been teaching watercolor and giving workshops throughout the United States.

I find myself inside objects daily. Those reflections, whether it be in copper, glass or water, are fascinating to me as a watercolor painter. Using these objects, I am on a constant search of “finding shine”. The shine unites these objects, bouncing their reflections from one surface to another. I am passionate about taking viewers of my paintings on this journey with me, inside, and outside every object.
